Since it is so new - and it is likely that there are still a few rough edges - you may want to delay automatic installation of IE-9 via Windows Update.
There is a registry entry that you can insert that will accomplish this:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Setup\9.0]You can create a file, (xxxx.reg) that will automatically update the registry for you, like this:
"DoNotAllowIE90"=dword:00000001
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00Of course, you will get all the usual warnings about modifying the registry causing Doom and Destruction - but you can (in this case) safely ignore them.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Setup\9.0]
"DoNotAllowIE90"=dword:00000001
What say ye?

Cool, thanks. Those nags that kept popping up were annoying.
ReplyDeleteHow do you know the fix though??
The only way I know to *FIX* this would be to hit someone at Microsoft over the head with a baseball bat! Unfortunately, society frowns on such "self-help" methods.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I really don't mind them offering IE-9 as an install option. What I *DO* mind is them classifying it as an "Important Update" so that, if you're not paying attention, you get slammed with this beast. IMHO that borders on being slimeware.
The only "fix" I know if is the registry hack I published above. Guess that will just have to do for now.
What say ye?

P.S. This blog could use more "followers" to help it gain traction with the search engines and be more available to people who really need it.
ReplyDeleteDo consider signing up as a follower. It not only helps you, it helps everyone else too.
Thanks!
